Our guest, Mike Wong, was born and raised in San Francisco, and became a soldier during the Vietnam War. He was very influenced by the anti-war movement. So when he received Viet Nam orders, he went AWOL, then turned himself in to the Presidio stockade with his lawyer, pleaded guilty to AWOL, and attempted to press a limited conscientious objector case.

This year, organisers of Nottingham Mayday have faced the full force of Notttingham City Council’s bureaucratic machinery, and had to jump through any number of legal and financial hoops. Despite these obstacles, the event went ahead on Saturday May 1st with perhaps a couple of 100 people turning up to celebrate International Workers' Day.

Die Wochen und Monate davor hatte sich im Kiez bereits herumgesprochen, dass die „Mähren-Gruppe“ (Mähren-Immobilien, Mähren-Grundbesitz und Mähren-Invest GmbH) die Ladenfläche der Oranienstraße 16 für 3.000 EUR Kaltmiete im Monat bzw. 40 EUR/m² neu vermieten will – eine Mieterhöhung um 100 Prozent für 80m². „Berlins Potential für renditestarke Immobilieninvestments ist längst noch nicht ausgeschöpft“, heißt das in der Sprache visionsloser Sachzwänge.
